The Reign of Iolite Rings

Our eyes are glued to iolite rings. And since you’re here, we have a feeling that yours are, too. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get shopping! Iolite is a gorgeous violet-purplish gem that got its name from its extraordinary color, by means of the Greek words ios (violet) and lithos (stone).

Back in the day, the Vikings used iolite as a navigation tool when sailing at sea. Now it’s commonly known as the “Vikings’ Compass” and also as water sapphire, dichroite or cordierite. Viking explores used iolite to help them determine their position when far away from any coastlines. (Hello, our saving grace GPS wasn’t a thing quite yet.) They looked through iolite lenses to figure out the exact position of the sun which helped them navigate safely across the Atlantic Ocean. Hooray! The Vikings most likely mined iolite from Greenland and Norway. However, today we mine iolite from India, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Guess what? You don’t have to be of Norsemen descent to appreciate beautiful iolite gems. Let’s set you up with an impressive iolite ring, a chic clutch and a sweet OSO Casuals top for a killer outfit. There, now you’re more than set to navigate your own waters!
