Accent Your Outfit with a Sensational Sapphire Necklace

Sapphire might be a gemstone that isn’t new to you. However, how much do you really know about it? Let us give you a quick gemstone lesson about sapphire before you add a striking and sensational sapphire necklace to your jewelry collection. Here we go!

An ancient Persian legend says the earth rests on a gigantic sapphire that gives its blue reflection to the sky. The name sapphire comes from the Latin form of the Greek word for blue, which is “sapphirus.” The most popular colors for sapphires range from light blue to a blue that appears to be almost black. These bold blue colors are caused by titanium and iron in the stone. The most highly valued color for blue sapphires is not the darkest blue, but a satiated and deep blue, which even in dim, artificial light still appears to be blue.

While sapphires are most commonly known for being a deep blue, it was decided years ago to consider all gemstones of the corundum mineral family to be sapphires. Non-blue sapphires are called “fancy” and can be nearly any color, including white (colorless), pink, yellow, green, orange, brown, golden, purple and even black. We have a number of fancy color sapphires here on our site. Red corundum is the exception, however, and was given the special name of “ruby.”

While you’re shopping away, we think you should add a sensational sapphire ring or a pair of earrings to your outfit. And with marvelous matching sapphire accessories, you’ll be set for success! Trust us on this one.
