We Have No Quarrel With Coral Necklaces!

A little bit pink, a little bit salmon and a whole lot of red – that’s coral for you! This princess of the sea is beautiful to say the least. Strung on necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings, corals can create some enchanting pieces of jewelry.

But did you know that the coral you see and love is really a polyp– a marine invertebrate living in colonies under sea? That doesn’t sound very romantic when you compare it to the lovely and lush colors of your jewelry, it’s true.

Here are a few interesting tidbits about coral for you - the earliest reference to coral can be traced back to the Greeks – as many things are! According to the story of Perseus, after he had placed Medusa's head on the riverbank and he washed his hands, he noticed that her blood had turned the seaweeds into red coral. In fact, the Greek word for coral is 'Gorgeia.'

Poseidon is supposed to have resided in a palace made of coral and gems. The Romans swore by the magical powers of coral – a piece of coral could protect their young ones as well as cure snake and scorpion bites. In Hindu astrology, coral has curative powers as well. Our collection has some exquisite jewelry pieces by Dallas Prince Designs, Gem Insider®, Gems en Vogue and many more. You are sure to find a piece or two to cherish!
