Start an Adventure with Lapis Bracelets

Let's go on an adventure. Going back more than 6000 years, let's explore the wonders of lapis lazuli. The gem was treasured by the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Let's stop in each one. Egyptians used it for sacred amulets and carved figurines; historians believe that Cleopatra used powdered lapis for eye shadow. That lovely blue hue had to come from somewhere right? The Romans believed it was a powerful aphrodisiac – so scandalous – while powdered lapis was used by painters from the medieval period through the Renaissance. Royal tombs of Ur showcased beautiful lapis statuettes of various animals, as well as dishes and beads.

Our lapis bracelets - maybe a beaded one?– are a great way to showcase this long living stone. Typically, lapis used in jewelry is cut into cabochons, beads and inlays. But as one of the earliest gemstone materials, lapis has been carved into bowls, dagger handles, hair combs and even game boards. You'll often see other colored inclusions in lapis, kind of like turquoise, but that doesn't take away from its gorgeous royal blue hue. Find yourself a blue top while you're at it to build a complete outfit. It is believed that wearing lapis will free one of melancholy and strengthen creativity. Now that would help on our little adventure. Let's get creative with lapis bracelets!
