Capture the beauty of copper cookware with these simple care and cleaning guidelines!
Before using your new copper cookware for the first time, wash it thoroughly in hot soapy water with a soft sponge or dishcloth. Then rinse in hot water. To prevent spotting, dry immediately. If your cookware comes coated with a tarnish-proof lacquer, remove it before heating (as heating lacquered cookware may eventually destroy the finish and result in permanent spotting). The lacquer can be dissolved and removed with acetone or lacquer thinner.
If your copper cookware has been lined with tin or silver, it must be treated very carefully. This lining may melt if heated over a high flame or if it is placed over a flame when empty. To avoid scratching the delicate lining, never use an abrasive or metal utensil. Wood and rubber scrapers work best. Even when using proper utensils, the copper may begin to show through the lining. If this happens, it is time to re-tin your cookware.
When cleaning the inside of a copper pot, use a soft cloth, mild soap, and water. Do not clean in dishwasher. Do not use any abrasive powder, steel wool pad, oven cleaners or cleansers with chlorine bleach. Use circular motions to clean. If you find that the food is stuck on, soak overnight or try a solution of baking soda and water heated gently in the pan.
To remove tarnish or darkening on the exterior of your copper cookware, use a quality copper cleaner, rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water.
