Cinnabar
Cinnabar is a mineral found throughout the world in shades of red that range from bright scarlet to brick. Sometimes known as cinnabarite, it is a substance associated with volcanic activity and in its natural state contains a substantial amount of mercury. In Mayan culture, the stone was displayed to deter vandals and criminals due to its widely known poisonous nature. In today's modern jewelry, the undesirable substances are removed carefully and replaced by a resin-based polymer, making the stone beautiful to wear and enjoy.
